Surgical Procedure: Spaying (Ovariohysterectomy)

Surgical Procedure: Spaying (Ovariohysterectomy)

Spaying, also known as ovariohysterectomy, is a surgical procedure performed to remove the ovaries and uterus of a female dog. This procedure is commonly recommended to prevent unwanted pregnancies, reduce the risk of certain reproductive diseases, and eliminate behaviors associated with the estrous cycle, such as roaming and aggression. During the surgery, the veterinarian will administer anesthesia to ensure the dog is unconscious and pain-free. Then, an incision is made in the abdomen, and the ovaries and uterus are carefully removed. The incision is then closed with sutures, and the dog is monitored during the recovery period.
